International Downtown Association Selects City Center Partnership's Urban Tour as Winner

Washington, D.C. – City Center Partnership received an Award of Distinction from The International Downtown Association (IDA) for their 2009 Urban Tour.

The project was one of 77 award submissions IDA received this year as part of its Downtown Achievement Awards. “The number and breadth of entries made judging a difficult task,” said Jane Jenkins, chairman of IDA and the awards program. “The awards jury was impressed with the accomplishments of the winners and are pleased to honor City Center Partnership’s Urban Tour among them.”

The 2009 Downtown Achievement Award winners were recognized during IDA’s 55th Annual Conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin September 11-15, 2009.

About Urban Tour
Urban Tour was a free spring event for the whole family, held on Thursday, May 7 from 5 to 8:30 p.m., and showcased all that Columbia’s downtown has to offer. The self-guided walking tour, between Gervais and Laurel Streets, included special offers and giveaways from retailers, live entertainment, street performers and musicians, local artists, a glimpse into downtown living, stories behind some of the historic buildings, and plenty of free food and drinks. Businesses along the tour keep their doors open late and free shuttle and horse carriage rides were available to assist pedestrians. The mission of the event was to drive traffic into the shops and restaurants in downtown Columbia, promote downtown living and culture within the Business Improvement District (BID), give downtown workers a reason to stay after five, and draw in people who are unaware of the offerings.
